Abstract

According to the data provided by FAO, 10 % of farm animal species have disappeared in the recent years and the 20 % are on the verge of extinction. The existence of domestic breeds is endangered due to lack of pedigree work and import of “genetic garbage” from abroad for commercial purposes. The current article considers the strategy of genetic resource conservation for the farm animals in Armenia; besides the role of FAO and other international organizations in the solution of the mentioned issue is discussed.
