Abstract

The results of genetic analysis for respiration intensity in seven varieties of Samsun tobacco are summed up in the third article of the presented series. The research data testify that the additive genes are the main determinants for this property. It has been proved that the low indices of the mentioned trait and the ĝi of the varieties, their complete domination and over-domination in hybrids, as well as the coefficient of photosynthetic efficiency are important criteria for breeding prospective varieties. Coefficient of photosynthetic efficiency and the content of green pigments are relevant means for the identification of valuable genotypes in the hybrid generations. Specific ways for optimizing all selection phases of the
investigated tobacco varieties have been recommended.
