Staphylococcus is one of the most common opportunistic microorganisms complicating the course of viral and non-infectious gastroenteritis in dogs. Displacing autochthonous gastro-intestinal microflora, staphylococci increase inflammatory processes in the affected intestinal mucosa, which negatively affects the overall homeostasis of the animal body. Determination of sensitivity towards antibiotics in the staphylococci, isolated from the intestinal contents of sick dogs, will enable to increase the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy used in case of gastroenteritis.
